This is where the “Backup/Recovery ECU Data” function can prove to be very useful.

*Unlike traditional car scanner backup methods that can be labor intensive and inconsistent, LAUNCH X431 PADVII provides a simple mechanism to back up all your ECU programming & coding data.

*It allows you to make a copy of your current Coding, Adaptations, and other info (such as Advanced ID and Live Data) of a selected control module, and save them as a file into your scan tool as a backup.

*To restore coding or programming values, just select the backup file you need and you’ll effortlessly get reverted back to the old settings/coding in a control module.

*For now this function is compatible with Mercedes Benz all series, and BMW F/G/I chassis.

>> What happens if I don’t program a new ECU after installing it on my car?

1. Answer: Nothing will happen, because the system doesn’t know how to react, since the PROM that governs the circuits of ECU “what to do” is blank.
2. It cannot command the injectors to open or the coil(s) to fire. It cannot command the fuel pump to send fuel. It cannot read the external temperature, or even the temperature of the coolant, because there are no instructions defining what is hooked to the ECU, and there is no information to tell the system when to open the injectors, or for how long.

It can be used alone as a remote diagnosis box for SmartLink remote diagnosis, or as a pass-thru tool to connect with OEM software.
